About Soumya
I was born in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. At the age of twelve, I faced a harsh reality that many girls in my village shared: I was not able to attend school after 6th grade. A chance encounter with a hiker who had come to climb the Atlas Mountains changed my life forever. I was given the opportunity to continue my education in the United States. While living in the U.S., I couldn't help but think about the girls and women in my community and how I could possibly help them. At the age of seventeen, I started Soumya’s Journey with the mission to empower the women and girls of the Atlas Mountains.
