On Friday, September 8, 2023, our peaceful village in the Atlas Mountains was struck by a powerful 6.8-magnitude earthquake, leaving a trail of destruction. The impact has been nothing short of catastrophic, with every single house either reduced to rubble or rendered uninhabitable.

In this time of immense need, we are reaching out to you for your generosity and support. Every dollar you contribute will be put to good use, making a meaningful difference in the lives of our community members. Your donations will:

1. Provide Critical Medical Care: We aim to ensure that anyone injured during the earthquake receives the medical attention they need promptly.

2. Supply Basic Necessities: We will distribute essential items such as food, clothing, and blankets to those left with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

3. Secure Access to Clean Water: Access to clean water is a fundamental need, and we are committed to establishing safe water sources for our community during these difficult times.

4. Rebuild Our Village: With your support, we will begin the painstaking process of rebuilding our village, providing our residents with a place they can call home once again.

Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a significant impact on our journey to recovery. We are immensely grateful for your kindness and solidarity during this challenging time.

Please join me in our efforts to restore hope and stability to the village. Together, we can rebuild what was lost and create a brighter future for the community.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

In June 2023, Soumya returned to her Moroccan village in the High Atlas Mountains after 6 years of study in the US. She had established the nonprofit, Soumya’s Journey, to create an opportunity for young girls in her village to attend school beyond the age of 13. Meeting with young women inspired her concept of The Women’s Cooperative - an extension of the mission of Soumya’s Journey to develop economic opportunities and entrepreneurship training for women.

THEN THE EARTHQUAKE CAME!

On September 8th, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit Morocco. Soumya's village (along with the surrounding villages) in the Atlas mountains has experienced great destruction. Now, less than one week after the earthquake, Soumya is returning with Pier and supplies to help set up a much-needed medical clinic, and they are bringing 300 pounds of clothes to help those affected.
